I figure that I should probably give more blog-space than I do to local commercial and corporate photography shoots so here’s a couple of photographs from the Foot Anstey Solicitors 2009 Sports Law Conference held in their impressive new building at Sutton Harbour in Plymouth. Foot Anstey’s dedicated sports team gave talks and fielded questions concerning recent changes in the law affecting athletes and sporting groups and clubs. Photographed above is the Chair of the conference Jack Buckner, a former Olympian and medal winner at the Commonwealth Games, World Championships and European Championships in the 5000 metres running event, and featured below is Foot Anstey Associate and Head Of Sports Julian Summerhayes.

Some photographs from a recent commercial photo-shoot at the Westmoor Veterinary Centre in Tavistock, Devon for their new brochure. The practice required commercial photos of the staff and premises to give a broad overview of the day-to-day running of the business and illustrate the depth of experience and facilities/equipment on hand. I love that photography takes me to places and gain access to things I’d never otherwise see and experience… I spent a half-day at the veterinary centre and got a brief insight into the workings of a vets’ practice and met some great people while also meeting (and hopefully exceeding) the client brief; made some great frames of the impressive equipment such as the big (really big) microscope above, through to consultations, surgery, and headshots of every one of the 19 employees and partners for their staff profiles. That’s a lot of photos…

Last night I was assigned to photograph
Debra Searle MBE for trade publication
Accounting and Business Magazine who was speaking at an event held by the
Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) at The Great Barn near Exeter in Devon. Debra is still best known for her solo row across the Atlantic, but now runs her own successful company alongside presenting television programs for the BBC, writing for the Express and Telegraph (as well as two books published about her experiences) and of course the motivational speaking at corporate events such as this one.

The 2008/2009 Shred Publishing Print Demon brochure has just gone to print and will be delivered to businesses across the Plymouth area by the Shred 500; it can also be viewed on-line at
www.printdemon.com Featured above is Shred founder and Director Steve Toze.
The brochure features ten portraits of local business-people; all clients of Shred Publishing, with the aim of showcasing both local businesses and services as well as Shred’s own products and services. Each portrait was taken on-location in order to capture the subjects during the course of their normal working day and composed to fit the layout requirements of the brochure. A few more tears from the brochure below.

Clive Fairweather is one of the Westcountry’s leading traditional storytellers, and was part of the entertainment at last Saturday’s Celebrate Start Bay event that I covered on assignment for the Slapton Line Partnership/South Hams District Council. With a deep interest in folk history, Clive’s repertoire of over 400 stories offer living interactions with the past in tales that convey the dramas and delights of other times.

John Fordy is the owner and founder of the Surfing Life surf shops; I shot this portrait of him in the Plymouth store a couple of days ago just before closing time so we didn’t disturb the customers when I started setting up lights and inevitably begun rearranging the shop displays in the name of getting a good photograph. John was a great subject and made the shoot feel pretty easy; we were done by 6:00PM with some strong images and a couple of alternate looks. The photograph of John is part of a series of commercial portraits that I’m currently producing on assignment for a design and print agency that wishes to feature a cross-section of their local clients (all Plymouth based business people) in their upcoming brochure advertising the company’s various products and services.

This is a corporate portrait I shot recently of Plymouth Drake Circus Mall Manager Mike Jones; my simple, creative approach to lighting allows me to be extremely flexible when working with busy clients who need to be photographed on location and between appointments, while still delivering studio quality images. I specialise in location portraits and this sitting was actually done in a small conference room within the Mall Management Suite, and the entire shoot was carried out inside of 30 minutes including set-up and strip-down time; the actual time spent with the subject can be as little as just a few minutes if their schedule dictates it. If you require a commercial photographer in the Plymouth area (I’m also available to work nationally if required) to produce corporate or commercial portraits for your business please contact me to discuss your requirements.
