Endurance Life Trail Blaze
August 22nd, 2008 § 0
Also at the Celebrate Start Bay event last weekend was the adventure race organiser Endurance Life with the launch of their new Trail Blaze course which begins and ends at the Sea Breeze Cafe in Torcross; an electronic key is hired from the cafe which is then used at each of the checkpoints at intervals along each of the five way-marked routes which vary from 2 to 24 miles along the coastline between Strete Gate and East Portlemouth. On completion of a route the overall time and split times are automatically uploaded to a leaderboard on the Trail Blaze website and the time and current leaderboard position is sent to the individual’s mobile phone via SMS. The launch was far more low-key than planned due to the heavy storms that hit the Devon coast overnight making it impossible to erect the Endurance Life gantry which the trail runners were to set-off from, but the rain eased to a drizzle for the start at 11AM and the athletes set-off in on the inaugural run which included members of the British Telemark Ski Team who were in South Devon for a Summer training weekend.

New Simon Keitch Photography website
August 9th, 2008 § 0
The new www.simonkeitch.com site is now online and features a broad selection of my most recent work. I’ve been planning a re-launch for some time as although I liked the original site for its clean and simple layout and design, I wanted to move forwards with a slicker, bolder, and even cleaner gallery design that would put all the emphasis on the images themselves. After some research I eventually opted for the excellent SlideShowPro plug-in for Adobe Lightroom which I used to create the Flash animated slideshows on the homepage and the portfolio galleries, before inserting them into the website’s pages. I will continue to refine the new site and there are more features that I’m planning to add in the future as time allows but the images look great and the software makes it very easy for me to update the site with new work.
John Fordy – Surfing Life
August 3rd, 2008 § 0
John Fordy is the owner and founder of the Surfing Life surf shops; I shot this portrait of him in the Plymouth store a couple of days ago just before closing time so we didn’t disturb the customers when I started setting up lights and inevitably begun rearranging the shop displays in the name of getting a good photograph. John was a great subject and made the shoot feel pretty easy; we were done by 6:00PM with some strong images and a couple of alternate looks. The photograph of John is part of a series of commercial portraits that I’m currently producing on assignment for a design and print agency that wishes to feature a cross-section of their local clients (all Plymouth based business people) in their upcoming brochure advertising the company’s various products and services.
